Privacy Policy
Climate Justice for Nepal is a people-led campaign. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we use it, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.
1. Scope of this policy
This policy applies when you visit this website, sign the Climate Justice for Nepal Appeal, contact us, provide campaign material, or otherwise interact with our online services. It does not govern websites, platforms or services operated independently by third parties.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide. When you sign the appeal, we collect your full name, email address, country, confirmation of support and the date and time of submission. If you contact us, we collect the information contained in your message. If photographs or other campaign material are provided to us, we may collect the contributor’s name, email address, caption, location, file details and any information visible in the material.
Information collected automatically. Our hosting, security and content-delivery providers may process limited technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, requested pages, timestamps, referral information and security events. We may also create short-lived human-verification records to help prevent automated or fraudulent signatures.
3. How we use personal information
We use personal information to:
- record, verify and count petition signatures;
- detect duplicate, automated, fraudulent or abusive submissions;
- administer, secure, maintain and improve the website and campaign;
- respond to enquiries and privacy requests;
- review, attribute and publish approved campaign photographs or materials;
- prepare campaign reports and deliver the appeal to relevant decision-makers; and
- comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, safety and integrity of the campaign and its supporters.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your petition email address for unrelated marketing unless you separately ask or consent to receive such communications.
4. Petition visibility and delivery
The public website displays an aggregate signature count, not a public list of signatories. Your name and country may be included in petition records, campaign reporting, or a formal delivery of the appeal to bodies such as the Government of Nepal, the United Nations, UNFCCC institutions, the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage, other governments, public authorities, media organisations or relevant civil-society bodies. We will not publish or include your email address in the petition delivery unless you consent or disclosure is required by law.
5. When information may be shared
We may disclose information to service providers that support website hosting, databases, file storage, security, authentication, email and technical operations. These providers may process information only to perform services for us or as otherwise permitted by their own legal obligations. We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, investigate misuse, protect safety or enforce our Terms of Service.
If responsibility for the campaign is transferred to a successor organisation, relevant campaign records may be transferred with appropriate safeguards and notice where required.
6. International processing
This is a global campaign. Our service providers and intended petition recipients may be located in countries other than your own, including Nepal, Australia and locations where technology providers operate. Privacy protections may differ between countries. We take reasonable steps to use information consistently with this policy wherever it is processed.
7. Photographs and public material
Approved photographs may be displayed publicly with a caption, location and contributor attribution. Public material can be copied, indexed or archived by others. Please do not provide a photograph unless you have the right to do so and have obtained any consent reasonably required from identifiable people shown in it, particularly children. We may decline, remove or edit material to protect safety, privacy, accuracy or campaign integrity.
8. Cookies and embedded services
We and our service providers may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for security, administration and delivery of the website. Embedded media, including privacy-enhanced YouTube videos, may place or access information on your device when you interact with it. For more detail, read our Cookies Policy.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including access controls, restricted administration, human verification and duplicate-signature protection. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Retention
We retain petition records for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, verify and deliver the campaign, maintain an accountable record of support, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. Security and human-verification records may be retained for shorter periods. Approved public material may remain available while it continues to serve the campaign. We may retain de-identified or aggregated information that no longer identifies you.
11. Children
This website is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly seek personal information from them. A person under 16 should not submit personal information through the website without the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate permission, please contact us.
12. Your choices and rights
Depending on the laws that apply to you, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction on, or a copy of your personal information, or object to certain processing. You may also ask us to withdraw your petition signature. Some requests may be limited where retention is required by law, necessary for security or dispute resolution, or needed to preserve an accurate record of a petition already delivered. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
13. Third-party links
The website links to news organisations, research bodies, social platforms and other third-party services. Their handling of personal information is governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the campaign, website or applicable law develops. We will publish the revised policy here and update the effective date. Material changes may also be highlighted on the website where appropriate.
15. Contact us
For privacy questions, requests or complaints, email action@climatejusticenepal.org. Please include enough information for us to understand and respond to your request.
